IEEE Student Chapter

IEEE Information Theory Society Chapter

Established under the JSSATEB Student Branch, officially managed by the Department of Information Science & Engineering (ISE), and affiliated with the IEEE Bangalore Section. We study the mathematical foundations of communication networks, information encoding, data compression, and cryptographic security.

Shannon-Hartley Theorem
C = B log₂(1 + SNR)

Defines the theoretical maximum information transmission rate (C, Channel Capacity) of a clean communications channel over bandwidth B under Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR).

Welcome to IEEE ITS JSSATEB

Welcome to the official portal of the IEEE Information Theory Society (ITS) Student Chapter at JSSATEB, run by the Department of Information Science and Engineering (ISE). We provide a collaborative platform for students to explore modern communication systems, coding theory, cryptography, and data science.

In association with the IEEE Bangalore Section, we host hands-on workshops, hackathons, and research seminars to help students bridge academic learning with practical engineering skills.

"Information is the resolution of uncertainty." — Claude E. Shannon

Core Fields of Investigation

Our chapter focuses on four central domains of modern digital technology:

Coding & Compression

Exploring data compression algorithms (like Huffman coding) and error-correcting codes essential for reliable communication and storage systems.

Cryptography & Security

Understanding encryption frameworks, public-private key systems, and secure hashing protocols that protect digital information.

Information Theory in AI

Studying mathematical optimization models (like cross-entropy loss) that drive neural networks and machine learning models.

Network Capacity

Analyzing data transmission rates, channel encoding, and noise cancellation protocols in modern high-speed networks.
